Robert Crook's Schedule

About: Robert Crook began as a guitarist, singer, and songwriter in Jackson, Mississippi in the 70s after witnessing the rock and roll revival occurring in small clubs in lower Manhattan.
In 1981, joined by his long time buddy Joe Bennett, a four-piece band was born and named Used Goods. The fabled UG’s played garage style power pop songs, both covers and originals. The groups first single, “Drive-in”, was nationally distributed on Tim Lee’s Big Monkey label and made it to numerous college radio station playlists. The cover songs The UG’s played were heavily weighted toward Mississippi music roots and included ones by Bo Diddley, Warren Smith, Jumpin’ Gene Simmons, Mose Allison, and yes even Elvis. Although Jackson, Mississippi in the 80s didn’t quite understand the groups concept, the UG’s had a loyal following and appeared in clubs, at parties, festivals, and once at Sears. They opened concerts for regional and national bands. The UG’s paved the way for a generation of bands that have followed.

After leaving The UG’s, Robert went on to form and be in several seminal Jackson bands including Bowl of Hot Grits, The Piccups, and BLimp. He has two original songs on a 1989 Mississippi compilation album titled Familiarity Breeds Contempt. His song, “Where’s Captain?” is considered a local anthem.

Following a hiatus in the 90s and early 00’s, Crook Music was born to revisit old favorites and write new ones. It is supported, inspired, and encouraged by the accomplished guitarist/drummer/keyboardist/digital artist Cade Crook.
