About: Alex is the Director of Instrumental Music at Pacoima Middle School and has been teaching for LAUSD since 2004. Alex is an alumnus of the acclaimed Hamilton Music Academy in Los Angeles and performed with his jazz combo in some of LA’s legendary jazz clubs. Alex went on to earn his BA degree in music from Pepperdine University, while attending on a full music scholarship. As a musician and composer Alex has been influenced by the tremendous variety and creativity that the world of music has to offer.
Alex has played with various local groups in the L.A. area including symphony orchestras, jazz ensembles and rock groups. At the start of his teaching career Alex founded his own after-school music and performing arts program. Alex has been fortunate to receive the support of community leaders and organizations such as the Barona Education Fund and Senator Alex Padilla.
Alex has been working with Little Kids Rock since 2012. This is his third year as a Rockfest Presenter. His heavily attended bass workshops have introduced teachers to the world of bass guitar. Alex is happy to return to Rockfest 2016 with Basses ReLoaded! In this exciting breakout session, participants will learn important bass skills to take back to the classroom, gain valuable insights into world of bass playing, and participate in some awesome bass jams!
