About  Jim Cochran floats through his days dreaming about being somewhere else and reflecting on his past. He hates his job and despises the delivery truck he must drive. In his free time he finds solace in shooting clay pigeons at the local shooting range. In contrast to his delivery truck his shotgun is his favorite thing in the world and he considers it his 'nightly companion'. He also has a slight love affair with performing magic tricks, and practices them alone in his backyard. Jim's life is stagnant; he makes no attempt to change and instead accepts his fate, living inside of his head with his memories of the past. One fateful day while walking in the woods he finds something on the ground, his decision to pick it up will change his life forever.

About  "Countertransference" is a comedy which looks at the frustration and discontent that can arise during therapy--especially with an unbalanced therapist at the helm. Carla Carthrop is a shy, socially awkward woman with massive self-esteem issues. She works in an antique store and her professional claim to fame is being selected to manage the basement. The core of the film revolves around Carla's attempt to walk away from her dysfunctional therapist. It's an irreverent, psychologically loaded exploration of the therapeutic process.

About  Hi Mom started out as a vague exploration of the filmmaker's view on her family, friends, and feelings, and ended up becoming a story about her mother. The video was shot on various consumer cameras, and includes stills either shot by the artist or stolen from the internet. She roped her family and friends into cooperating with her shoots without telling them what the final product would be. All camera work, sound, and editing was conducted by the artist. She is unaware of if her Mom has seen the piece.

Isis Avenue
5 Attendees
Location Alamo Lamar 1
About  Isis Avenue intimately documents a 'crime-scene cleanup' crew's excavation of the home left abandoned by its deceased owner in Ingelwood, CA. Shot in a single-camera verite style, the unobtrusive and unanticipated nature of the film's process casts loss, absence and apathy as characters in the aftermath of an unknown woman's death. The pasts of the professionals who specialize in homicides, suicides, decomposition and hoarding cases are as hauntingly present as that of the departed. In an era of reality subjects, Isis Avenue stands in subtle opposition, in process and form, to the inevitable reality series soon to champion the subject of crime-scene cleanup. The entire filmmaking process was performed in 17 hrs 47 min; a conceptual sliver of time in the white light of Angelino anonymity.

About  Crude Independence is a documentary film about the heartland in the process of transplanting itself, and its new heart is pumping oil. In 2006, the United States Geological Survey estimated there to be more than 200 billion barrels of crude oil resting in beneath western North Dakota, and now oil companies from far and wide are descending on small rural towns across the state with men and machinery in tow. First-time director Noah Hutton takes us to the town of Stanley (population 1300) and captures the change wrought by the unprecedented boom. Through revealing interviews and breathtaking imagery of the northern plains, Crude Independence is a rumination on the future of small town AmericaÑa tale of change at the hands of the global energy market and America's unyielding thirst for oil.

About  The 1950's was an idealistic time in American History. It was also the Atomic Age where new technology promised to both save humanity as well as destroy it. All of these factors gave birth to the most prolific genres in film history, 1950's Sci-Fi Cinema. More then just little green men, 50's Sci-fi Cinema provided inspiration for the generation who achieved one of the greatest accomplishments of mankind; Spaceflight. Monsters From The Id weaves the intersecting themes of over 30 films in order to tell the untold story of the Modern Scientist and his role in inspiring a nation. The film continues to explore the psychological and cultural impact of 50's Sci-Fi cinema in America and asks, 'where is science inspiration found today?'

About  On the 40th anniversary of the Internet, WE LIVE IN PUBLIC tells the story of the effect the web is having on our society as seen through the eyes of 'the greatest Internet pioneer you've never heard of', visionary Josh Harris. Award-winning director, Ondi Timoner ('DIG!'), documented his tumultuous life for more than a decade, to create a riveting, cautionary tale of what to expect as the virtual world inevitably takes control of our lives. Josh Harris, often called the 'Warhol of the Web' through the infamous dot.com boom of the 1990's, founded Pseudo.com, the first Internet television network and created his vision of the future, an underground bunker in NYC where 100 people lived together on camera for 30 days over the millennium.

About  Paul Carty is 19, good-looking, funny, clever Ð and bored out of his mind. His mother died a year ago. He lives in middle class suburbia with his silently grieving father and feisty young sister, Molly. Carty works as a junior civil servant and spends all his wages on clubs, records, football and gigs. It's at a Bunnymen gig that he meets Elvis. Elvis changes everything.
He's part of a gang called The Pack. The Pack are notorious; they dress in a cultish, almost effeminate style that's at odds with the boneheads and bootboys they fight against. They have androgynous wedge haircuts worn with Fred Perry shirts, Lois jeans and Adidas Forest Hills training shoes. For as long as he has been going to football, Carty has been fascinated by The Pack. Now Elvis seems to be offering him a way in.
Except he isn't. For all that Carty lionises The Pack, Elvis dilutes his idealism. He warns Carty that these lads are nobodies. Elvis is a council estate romantic, a dreamer with big plans about escaping to Berlin, New York, anywhereÉ Anywhere, so long as Carty comes with him. He's been waiting all his life for someone like Carty, someone he can talk with and relate to about art, music, poetry...suicide. They love the same bands - Magazine, Joy Division, Wire - and think the same way; or so Elvis wants to believe. He's smitten with his new mate and plans the big journeys they'll make together.
But Carty soon gets to know the 'other' Elvis - moody, fatalistic and possessive. He throws as many obstacles as he can in Carty's path, whenever he fears he's losing him. Elvis is all too well aware how badly Carty craves the Pack lifestyle, and tries to keep him away - but in spite of all his warnings, Carty's on a collision course, plunging deeper into their dark and vicious world. Elvis can see how Carty's fascination is blinding him, yet he's powerless to pull him back from the brink. Once he's been on his first awayday and sampled the buzz of random violence, Carty just wants more, more, more...
But Carty is never truly accepted by the gang. He's there on sufferance, simply because his sponsor, the psychotic yet enigmatic Elvis is so revered. Their conflict reaches its crisis as Carty tries harder and harder to impress the wild boys, while Elvis sinks deeper into paranoia and jealousy. Something has to break.

About  A married woman has an affair. She gets pregnant by her lover and they live serenely together, although war is thundering towards their city. Despite lineups, traffic jams and shortages they manage to live a peaceful life with their little girl. Rosa Rosa is the interweaving of individual and collective fates via a love story told by the couple themselves. It consists partly of reworked photos, the images superimposed on each other to create a stylized realism in which public and private spaces overlap. With its evocative soundtrack and plain, simple narration, this film by director Félix Dufour-Laperrire offers a touching look at happiness in hard times.

It reminds him of his youth: As a young hunter, Utaaq discovered that a qivitoq was using a tupilak to kill local hunters. Tupilaks are magical creatures that obey their masters. Utaaq went off into the mountains where he became a shaman, and on his return, he used his powers to destroy the qivitoq. Back to Utaaq at the bus stop, we see a weary old man nostalgically watching the bird É

About  A feisty descendant of Betty Boop tells her no-good boyfriend to hit the road, her litany of complaints set to the barrelhouse rhythm of Fats Waller. "You're Outa Here" starts with stride-master Dick Hyman playing the high-voltage intro to "The Minor Drag." Our animated leading lady strides forth to make her case for the immediate ejection of her boyfriend from their apartment. Her cat clock, dog and pet piranha also demand his exit. She attempts to oust him from his Barcalounger, badgers him to start packing, and recounts his various shortcomings. He's lazy, he sleeps around, he called her doorman "Pancho" and her Uncle Bob "a queer." The film includes two rotoscope dance sequences. This Neo-Soundie was sung by Lorraine Feather, who also wrote the lyrics, and animated by George Griffin.

About  Died Young Stayed Pretty is the first feature documentary to take a candid look at the renaissance of North America's underground indie-rock poster movement spurred on by the launch of Gigposters.com. Picking up where punk left off, DYSP reveals a new breed of counter-culturists; artists that set out to destroy the mainstream through their controversial & intensely visceral design work. Yaghoobian travels across US & Canada to offer a look into to the world of some of the giants of this modern subculture who have worked on posters for groups like Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Sonic Youth, and the list goes on. Under the guise of advertising for rocks shows, these unheralded masters of the silkscreen carry on public discourses that range from hot button political issues to lewd inside jokes.

About  In a fever dream where hands are people, one hand fights the pleasure of the bottle by telling his story through song.
This classic tale of loss and woe features Pablo Ribba (illuminados para el fuego) as Adan the troubadour. Adan's innermost woe drives him from his lonely and tortured existence to the numbing satisfaction of the bottle.
In this world, one can almost hear the tortured cry of a soul in despair as Adan plays the guitar from place to place, his head hung low, his spirits sagging. The weight of the world virtually rests on his small shoulders.
Though, in this case, they are not only shoulders, but the most expressive fingers you have ever seen.

He pretends to be a person, eating, laughing, talking with homemade dummies, all the while having no real idea why he's doing any of it. He figures there are just some things you do when you're human. He is given a vision. In the dream state he sees humanity for what it truly is, and realizes at once the error he's made. It isn't so bad, not being human.

Terp 2 It, 'F@ck This City'
4 Attendees
Location Alamo Ritz 2
About  Nerdcore rapper Terp 2 It hates the city of Orlando, Florida so much, he wrote the song 'Fuck This City' and then made a music video so everyone could feel and understand his hatred. Produced by internet comedy video group Studio 8, 'Fuck This City' turns the usual flashy hip hop music video conventions on their heads and smooshes you deep inside Terp's angry head. Yet lurking beneath the hearty mixture of no-holds-barred trash talk and abrasive imagery hides the goofy soul and wit of Terp 2 It. By the end of the video, you might find yourself wondering whether you should be more afraid for Orlando or for Terp, should the two ever cross each other's paths. 'Fuck This City' can be found on Terp 2 It's debut album The Freshest Dude from Studio 8 Records.

About  The music video "An Evening with Rthrtha" is a high-velocity psychedelic stop-motion animation made from thousands of photos on hundreds of layers using an eclectic array of analog animation techniques. The final result is a horrible/splendid array of bats, butterflies, that depicts "An Evening with Rthrtha".

About  Jerk it is our first music video, made for the band Thunderheist. It features skin giggling in slow motion, strobing animal prints, and a girl with a large rooster. After winning the band's contest, it premiered on pitchfork.tv. It has since received more attention than we ever imagined and for that we are humbled and truly grateful. We would like to thank Anna, Mike, Tristan, Caleb, Diana, Carey, Jennifer, Yoshiko, Eric, and Bronwyn for volunteering their time. Without them this video would not have been possible. We are also grateful to Grahm and Isis of Thunderheist and their manager Tash, and to all the bloggers and festival programmers who posted the video and took an interest in our work. Thanks!

Tycho, 'Meridian'
1 Attendees
Location Alamo Ritz 2
About  The philosophy of materialism holds that the only thing that can be truly proven to exist is matter. Fundamentally, material composes all things and all phenomena are the result of material interactions; therefore, matter is the only substance and can neither be created or destroyed. Hence, we are all made of only what came before us yet discretely conceived through form; we are all made of earth and sky and stars.
Meridian uses time lapse footage coupled with a live action environment to describe the material connection between the ethereal universe and human perception. Featuring the track "The Daydream" by the ambient artist Tycho, star-scapes intersect a city and a female protagonist in the process of discovery within the context of ordinary life.

Blood Trail
14 Attendees
Location Austin Convention Ctr
About  At times war photographer Robert King resembles a heroic misfit straight out of the pages of Scoop, thrown into the heart of battle, struggling to adapt to the brutal environment he finds himself in. Occasionally comic, often touching, more often dark, Blood Trail, the tale of Robert King, is a unique and personal journey, a film which follows him over 15 years and through three wars.
His journey starts in Sarajevo in 1993, a 23-year-old fresh out of Art College and prepared to dodge bullets on the front line dreaming of a Pulitzer Prize. His dream proves elusive. Fired by his photo agency and struggling to make ends meet, any swashbuckling allusions Robert holds for the career he has chosen quickly evaporate: as he realises this is one of the toughest professions in the world.
Despite himself, Robert stays in the game, over time establishing himself as a respected professional, his work making the front covers of global media titles. Over 15 years Blood Trail records Robert's life from boy to man, to husband and father. It is a biography, which leads from reckless naivety to maturity hardened by war and softened by family. It is a story, which forces Robert to inevitably question why he chose a profession, which involves an endless trail of death and destruction.

Motherland

Location Alamo Lamar 3
About  Six diverse and remarkable women, each grieving the loss of a child, travel to rural South Africa to work as volunteers in an effort to find some positive meaning in the wake of their tragedies. The group, strangers to each other before the trip began but bound by the painful experience they share, contribute to and learn from a culture that deals with mourning in a way very different from what they're accustomed to in America. For 17 days on the other side of the world, these women cry and laugh, grieve and celebrate, and talk more openly than ever before about the kids they adored. And for the first time since their children's deaths, together in the Motherland, each woman finds hope and healing in the company of others who truly understand her experience.

About  With a combined age of almost 300, Hetty, Rose and Alison love to share their impassioned concerns on everything from terrorism and global warming to sex, death and the meaning of life. But despite their unstoppable enthusiasm and disarming humour, all three women are not simply ready for death Ð they actively want to die.At the end of lives lived with passion and purpose, Hetty, Rose and Alison bring to the screen a rare perspective on old age. Surprising, poignant and at times very funny, The Time of Their Lives reveals the everyday mystery of how very old people experience life and the effects of age on their sense of identity and worth. Like first-hand witnesses who have gone ahead and report back from the edge of their own mortality, they tell us things of which no-one ever speaks.

About  In 2008, British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN took rock and roll touring to new heights and embarked on the Somewhere Back in Time world tour. Flying in their customized Boeing 757 with 12 tons of equipment and 70 crew, Maiden traveled over 40,000 miles in just 45 days playing sold-out concerts from India to Los Angeles to the tip of South America. And not only did lead singer Bruce Dickinson perform all 23 shows, he also piloted the plane. IRON MAIDEN: FLIGHT 666 brings the road trip movie to the air, taking you behind the scenes and inside the cockpit of the most ambitious tour in rock history. The film shows one of the world's most influential bands captivating new fans in cultures across the globe without support from radio or mainstream media.

About  An extraordinary look at 4 blind teens. The parallel stories of 2 freshmen and 2 seniors unfold over the course of one dynamic year at the Texas School for the Blind in Austin. EYES offers a fresh perspective on growing up and fitting in.
Distilled from over 250 hours of footage, this experiential doc captures a textured portrait of its characters. Director Keith Maitland worked closely with the film's subjects to produce sequences of stylized rotoscopic animation to complement the film's observational aesthetic.
Forced to confront the world without sight, they share their thoughts, their perceptions, their inner-visions of the outer world. You cannot understand their perceptions without challenging your own.
How do you see yourself when you can't see at all?

Casimiro
Location Alamo Lamar 2
About  Casimiro is the story of an illegal immigrant living in central Texas. As we follow him throughout his daily routine we realize the difficulties, both physical and emotional he is forced to confront. Casimiro begins his day trying to write an encouraging and positive letter to his family back in his homeland. As the day progresses, we can experience that the American dream Casimiro was after has resulted in a much more difficult journey, one which he has to overcome alone. His solitude and inability to adapt to a strange world ultimately create a distance between Casimiro and his family, one that goes beyond the physical boundaries of countries and cultures.

About  Stanless Steel can leg-press 10,000 pound dump trucks, drive nails through boards with just his bare hands, and can even bend a U.S. penny in his fingersÑa feat no one else in the world can accomplish. These are acts, he feels, not just of physical strength but of mental and emotional strengthÑdemonstrations of the kind of change possible through will-power and perseverance. Yet as Stan reaches middle age, career disappointments and difficult personal relationships begin to test these strengths and force him to struggle with the weaknesses around himÑincluding his own.
Befitting its subject's sense of integrity and artistic purity, Strongman uses a hard-core verite approach and applies it to a thoroughly modern story.

This documentary follows five rappers with experience on both ends of the barrel (Young Buck, B Real, Obie Trice, The Last Mr. Bigg, and 40 Glocc) as they take viewers back to the scenes of the crimes and into their darkest hours. They are joined by a diverse cast of Hip Hop luminaries (Mos Def, KRS One, Ice Cube and more), community activists, police officers, doctors and citizens to expose the physical, mental and emotional scars of gun violence in the streets and in the music.
From the makers of BEEF, QD3 Entertainment bring you NUMBER ONE WITH A BULLET, a groundbreaking look into the epidemiology of gun violence within Urban America.

About  Not content to bank on the power of a salacious title, director Phil Claydon's LESBIAN VAMPIRE KILLERS packs as much of a punch as the name implies. Matthew Horne and James Corden, the comedy duo behind the award-winning BBC comedy series GAVIN AND STACEY, are two hapless losers whose idyllic country holiday is shattered by the arrival of an army of thirsty lesbian vampires. James Corden owns the film with a non-stop barrage of rapid-fire tom-foolery and Paul McGann (the 'I' of WITHNAIL AND I) chews every inch of scenery as the vicar with a hearse heavy with undead-slaying devices. With heaping helpings of gratuitous skin, violence and onscreen beer consumption, LESBIAN VAMPIRE KILLERS seems tailor made for a witching hour debut at the Alamo Drafthouse.

About  When his Parisian armored car holdup goes horribly awry, our protagonist 'Black' needs to go on the lam. News from his cousin in Senegal about a stash of uncut diamonds in a poorly guarded bank in Dakar hatches the plan to go on a 'working vacation' that involves a little sightseeing and a lot of mayhem. Genre fans know underground French MC Jean Gab'1 as a villain in District B-13, but with BLACK, he take center stage and delivers a nouveau-blacksploitation adventure awash in, black magic, African mysticism, mutant arms dealers, gargantuan machete-wielding mercenary armies and a truckload of knuckle-sandwiches.
